Vassie Rajah
A devoted educator, visionary leader, passionate sports administrator and community servant whose legacy continues through the work of the Vassie Rajah Foundation.

Vassie Rajah was a devoted educator, respected leader, passionate sports administrator and community servant whose life was dedicated to uplifting others through education, sport and service. Born in Pietermaritzburg on 23 January 1956, he grew up with strong values of discipline, respect and learning, values that would guide him throughout his life.
From his early years at TPA Primary School and Woodlands High School, Vassie showed natural leadership and a deep love for sport. In 1967, he captained the Pietermaritzburg primary schools’ soccer team to the Natal Championship, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to youth development and school sport.
After qualifying as an educator at the University of Durban-Westville, Vassie began teaching in 1977. Over a distinguished 38-year career, he served as an educator, Head of Department and Principal, leading both TPA Primary School and Allandale Primary School with integrity, compassion and a strong commitment to quality education.
His influence extended far beyond the classroom. Vassie coached and supported young athletes across soccer, cricket, volleyball, athletics, swimming, gymnastics and table tennis. He also held several leadership roles in school and regional sport, including President of the Midlands Primary Schools Sports Association and the Midlands Volleyball Association. He helped establish the United Sports and Social Club, served as its first President, and contributed to several community, education and sporting committees.

Although he passed away on 15 February 2016, his legacy continues through the Vassie Rajah Foundation, which carries forward the values he lived by: service, leadership, respec, excellence and a lasting commitment to community upliftment.
